Mayor’s Breakfast

March 25, 2009 at 8:53 pm (Uncategorized)

Today was a very exciting day. We had prayer with the mayor and deputy mayor of our city. It is so awesome to know that we have a mayor that is seeking the will and wisdom of God to govern our city.

The Word tells us the prayers of a righteous man and (woman) avails much. Our God is always looking for men and women to carry His Glory with them were ever they go. This is called walking in the Favor Zone.

Those who are diligent to seek His face will find Him. We found Him today and it was truly wonderful. I want to encourage you to find out if your mayor is a praying man or woman and if so ask if it would be possible to set up a time to pray for your city.

I believe our God will honor all our efforts and release the power of His Spirit over our cities and we will not have to fear what is ahead of us. If our God goes before us who can fight against us and win.

Gas money

March 17, 2009 at 6:41 pm (Uncategorized)

I met a lady at work and I could not get her off my mind, so after praying I called her and told about our church and the Big Give and I felt lead to give her money for gas.

She started to cry and said “I can’t believe you are calling at this moment, I used to go to church but have not for a while and I just asked God how I could continue to look for a job when I had no money and was wondering if He heard me any more…then you called, I am just amazed”

We talked for a while longer then I prayed for her and told her to stop by my work place when she was in town the next day. She did and we spent about 30 min. talking and giving me her story, I prayed again for her and believe even if she does not come to our church, God made a move that reminded her He still loves her!!

Spring Fever

March 13, 2009 at 2:11 am (Uncategorized)

I’m feeling the same way as Pastor Jim about spring…. I’m a teacher, so my students and I definitely have spring fever!  I’m counting the days until spring break and very thankful that I have a job with a vacations that come around at just the right time….

Since I’m a second year teacher, I’ve had to do a BIG project called an online portfolio that’s required for all second year teachers in the state in order to keep our teaching licenses.  One of the requirements is to make a video of yourself teaching so that you can watch yourself in action and the state can evaluate your teaching.  I teach ninth grade English, and they’re kind of crazy anyway, so bringing a video camera into the mix was a risky move, but I had to do it.

The students in my second period class came up with all kinds of suggestions about how to make my video memorable.  These included British and Italian accents, jumping in front of me and introducing themselves, asking a bunch of questions that I couldn’t answer, and zooming in on a kid who would pretend to be sleeping.  On the day I decided to film, I forgot that it was spirit week and I was right in the middle of “Dress Like A Toddler Day.”  I almost passed out when I saw a kid wearing long underwear with a giant fake diaper over the top.  And suddenly the revised plan to make my video memorable was to have the diaper-wearing student walk directly in front of me on his way to the pencil sharpener.

So before my cameraman pressed record, I gave a moving speech in which I asked them to remember that they were all model students and I was their model teacher.  If a model teacher asks a question, model students answer it.  They also ask insightful questions that I CAN answer to show that they are very interested in the story we are currently reading.  Model students do NOT walk directly in front of the teacher in a large diaper or pretend to be sleeping.  And I reminded them that if I was no longer a teacher next year, it would be forever on their consciences.

And the video turned out something like this.  It’s not us, but it easily could have been….

I really do have great students :) And I really am looking forward to spring break!

Spring Is In The Air

March 6, 2009 at 3:52 pm (Uncategorized)

I am so excited that spring is just around the corner. It is time to polish up the old motorcycle and oil up the bicycle and get them  road ready. As I look around my yard, I see that we have a lot of work ahead of us to get it in shape again, but you know that is the kind of work you don’t mind doing.

Another sign that spring is coming is that we have to set our clocks ahead this Saturday March 7th. We must be ready to spring ahead and spend more time out of the house. In the Old Testament, the kings would go to war in the spring time. They would go out to examine their kingdoms and expand their sphere of influence while taking more territory.

God has given us a great opportunity to expand His kingdom with The Big Give outreach. So let’s not get caught with our pants down but rather fulfill the great commission by reaching as many people as we can by being servants to them and truly showing them the love of Christ through this wonderful outreach.

God doesn’t give us something to do just to have something for us to do; there will always be a purpose to His plans. If we really want to see His glory, all we have to do is be obedient to what He has asked us to do–and that is just to Love His people.
